Background information

After living abroad for many years in Ireland, Canada, the United States and Argentina, Madja Westermann (1932) returned many years ago to the Netherlands.

From 1955 until 1959 she studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.

From 1963 she had shows in Dublin, Belfast, Ottawa, Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, Düsseldorf and Buenos Aires.

She works with textiles of which the outcome often are sculptures of heads. Furthermore her artwork consists of paintings, drawings, pastels, illustrations for books, sets- and costume design.

Madja Westermann has also written and published a book with short stories and drawings of Ireland. The name of the book is "The Fairies in the Fuchsia". Information how to order the book you can find in "The Fairies in the Fuchsia" and in the link "Fairies ..." on the menu.

The main subject in her art work are women and fantasy figures.
